Overview

It’s a big world! While the availability of internet and computer programs have made it easier for some to get their artwork noticed, the other side of the coin is that now everyone and their brother (and maybe the family dog) is doing art, taking photographs and designing t-shirts. Being an artist is no longer the outlet of the outcast and tormented, and you are no longer required to give all your time and money toward your passion just to sell your art. BUT! That does not mean that every artists’ work is created equal. In fact just the opposite, it means we now have to plow through thousands of pages of uninspired snapshots and doodles just to find artwork that’s original, enticing and whose creator actually sweat a little. This brings me to the point of “World Art & Design”

This site will act as a filter for those who want to view and/or purchase new and exciting art. The term art is very broad and so too are the sites covered by World Art and Design. Posters, fine art, sculpture, photography, even T-shirts and bumper stickers. I don’t care what medium the art is on. If it’s good, I’m going to bring it to you. This site; however, is not just for people on the prowl for a purchase. In fact, I would say that most of the visitors are themselves artists who are looking for inspiration and who just like to “take a stroll” through the art world. For them I will also have posts on what I call “art news”. That would be anything which artists might find useful or informative on the path to improving their craft.

The best way to keep abreast of the new findings is to simply sign up for the RSS feed . Then you’ll know as soon as something exciting is posted… which should be every day ;) .

Who am I?

My name is Gene. By trade I’m a web designer and photographer, but prefer to think of myself as a part time Gypsy with a bad case of wanderlust. One of the best parts of wandering around the world (of which I do a good amount) is seeing how the rest of the world sees things. Usually the best way to tap into a culture’s point of view is to check out their artwork. You not only see how that culture perceives things now but through architecture, paintings, clothing, photography and music you can look into that culture’s past. More often than not, I find that most cultures have a much richer view of the world than we (Americans) do. This shouldn’t surprise anyone since we’ve been around for a great deal less time and the prosperity of our nation tends to insulate us from much of the “human condition”.
