Become a Travel Photographer

Date August 26, 2008

Anyone who likes to take photos and likes to travel has dreamed about becoming a travel photographer.   It’s a tough field.  With digital cameras draped about nearly every tourists neck these days, plus the internet in every home,  It’s harder than ever to take a photo that people have not already seen.   Maybe seen thousands of time by now (ie: any famous landmark).   But this does not mean you cannot turn a few bucks in the field.

Today I happened across a fantastic article on just this topic.   It’s packed full of good advice and ideas without losing your focus with drawn out explanations.   Even if you’re not trying to become a travel photographer, I think it’s just a good article to read.   So read it now :)

Pandora - A whole new way to hear music

Date August 13, 2008

Have you ever wished you could program your own XML/Sirius stations?   Now you can.  Pandora.com has created a new FREE online service which lets you do just that.  In a nutshell the service allows you to create your own “radio stations”.  Not just one, but as many as you could ever need.    Each station is “seeded” by a particular artist or song.  This “seed” then sprouts more music related to it.   You are able to save and rate music which is played within your station, and in doing so you “teach” Pandora what music fits within this station’s play list and what does not.  In addition you can add new “seeds” to a station to broaden it’s play list.

How does it work? The key to the system is it’s database of music definitions called “The Music Genome“.  This is a far more complex way to categorize music than what we are used to.  Read the rest of this entry »

Fun with Scanners

Date August 7, 2008

Ever thought of doing “scanner art”?   Hmmm,,  me neither until I saw this video the other day.   According to the artist, Gary Reef, an Australian contemporary mixed media artist, there was no image manipulation done on these images.  That being the case, this is some very cool stuff and a novel idea to make cool looking art.

It’s important to be reminded that their is always a new way to do things…  Don’t let yourself get stuck.

I also went ahead and checkout out his website at http://www.garyreef.com/ .   I wasn’t in love with all of it, but most of it I thought was pretty cool looking.   He definitely has a wide variety of mediums he toys with.
